Welcome to the TubFusioN FAQ page, where we’ve gathered answers to the most common questions about our refinishing services, materials, and processes to help you understand what makes TubFusioN the ideal choice for refreshing your bathroom or kitchen surfaces in the greater Twin Cities area. Whether you’re curious about how resurfacing works, the quality of our finishes, or when a replacement might be necessary, our FAQs provide clear insights to guide you.

Bathtub resurfacing, also known as refinishing, reglazing, re-enameling, or even painting, is a process that restores the appearance and function of a worn or outdated surface. By applying a new finish over an existing fixture—whether a bathtub, sink, countertop, or tile—a fresh, durable coating is created to make it look and feel like new. Different companies may use various techniques and materials, but the goal remains the same: to breathe new life into surfaces without the cost and hassle of full replacement.

Not at all. Surface preparation is the most critical aspect of any resurfacing project, yet it’s also the most overlooked step, as it becomes invisible once the new finish is applied. Unfortunately, some companies may cut corners with inadequate or even no preparation to save on time and cost. Poor prep work is the leading cause of resurfacing failures, leading to more repairs and re-dos than quality finishes. At TubFusioN, we prioritize meticulous preparation and use high-quality materials to ensure a lasting, flawless finish.

No, the type of finish makes a big difference in durability and appearance. There’s a wide range of coatings used in resurfacing, from  class 5 urethanes—to lower-quality options like single-stage epoxies, automotive paints, and even latex, which aren’t designed to withstand regular use in bathrooms and kitchens. At TubFusioN, we use only the highest quality, industry-specific materials that have been rigorously tested to ensure a long-lasting, beautiful finish tailored for resurfacing applications. As a matter of fact our coating system is only available to the highest level most vetted refinishing companies, most do not qualify to use it.

Our refinishing excellence is built on three essential pillars:

  • Expert Technicians: Our team consists of highly trained, dedicated professionals who take pride in their craft and pay meticulous attention to detail. We only employ direct-hire technicians who undergo thorough background checks—never subcontractors—ensuring quality and consistency on every project.
  • Precise Preparation: We emphasize thorough preparation of every fixture before resurfacing to guarantee a smooth, long-lasting finish. Proper preparation is key to delivering results that exceed expectations.
  • Top-Tier Coatings: We use only the highest quality, industry-leading coatings that are specifically designed and tested for resurfacing, ensuring durability and performance over time. Most refinishing companies are turned away from using this due to quality concerns.

These components combine to make TubFusioN a leader in quality and reliability in the refinishing industry.

There are several situations where replacing a bathtub may be the best option:

  • Significant Rust Damage: Steel tubs showing severe rust, particularly around the drain or overflow, should be considered for replacement. While minor rust can be temporarily repaired, rust often re-emerges and is typically far more extensive on the underside of the tub than what appears on the surface.
  • Style Update: Sometimes, a bathtub simply doesn’t fit the desired look or style of a bathroom. Replacing the tub can be a great option when updating a space’s overall aesthetic.
  • Tub-to-Shower Conversions: Converting a bathtub into a shower is an increasingly popular trend, and we offer solutions to make this transition smooth and functional.
  • Rotted Subfloor: If the subfloor beneath the bathtub is rotted from years of leaks, it often requires replacement. In such cases, it’s practical to replace the bathtub as well since it must be removed to access and repair the subfloor.

Each of these instances presents a unique reason to consider replacing a tub, ensuring both safety and design goals are met effectively.
